The HockeyBot Mobile Amusement System

Objective
The HockeyBot Mobile Amusement System is a newly developed interactive amusement that enables participants to play hockey with mobile robotic platforms. The robots are controlled by each participant with the use of a joystick and remote frequency technology. The HockeyBot travel at speeds up to 14km/hr and have the ability to control and shoot a puck at a goal. When this occurs, a sensor confirms the goal by the use of a strobe light and the sound of a buzzer.

Contact between HockeyBot is permissible. A metal arena contains the HockeyBot so no physical human contact with the HockeyBot is possible. At present there are four HockeyBot used during each match. An extra HockeyBot will be present as a spare. Mannequins have been placed on top of the HockeyBot to give them a more appealing look. These mannequins will flex and bend during game play to give the game more excitement, especially with children.

Impact Robotik plans to put high technology in the the hands of all in a fun and interactive environment.

Benefits
Studies have shown that the “HockeyBot Mobile Amusement System” caters to all ages starting around the age of six. Six and under should be accompanied by an adult. Our system also accommodates individuals with disabilities. Relatively good vision and some upper body mobility is all that is required. All can have fun.

Other benefits relate to the fact that as well as being an amusement the “The HockeyBot Mobile Amusement System” also provides entertainment. This factor is present when people are waiting to play. The crowd control barriers are arranged in such a way that there is good visibility by the waiting group of people during game play. The action in the arena provides a level of entertainment depending on the caliber of players. The better the players the more the excitement.

No wait longer than 40 minutes. Only a limited number of tickets are handed out on an hourly interval. This will be explained further in operations but our philosophy is to minimize lines and allow people to finish other activities instead of waiting to play the HockeyBot. This philosophy will reduce crowd and waiting frustrations.

There is a positive probability that people will tend to stay longer to take in the action. They may wait around for the next round of robotic hockey to begin. This will benefit the host by keeping people in their facility for longer periods of time. People that are waiting (not in line) tend to spend more money elsewhere.

Operations
Each round of robotic hockey lasts for approximately 44 minutes. The round is divided into 11 games. 4 people play per game for a total of 44 people per round. At the beginning of each round 44 tickets are handed out in an orderly fashion either by a attendee or a ticket dispenser. The ticket holders wait in line for their opportunity to play. It is possible to buy more than one ticket and play continuously.

After the round there is a 5-10 minute maintenance period to recharge the Hockeybot. After charging and maintenance are complete 44 more tickets are handed out and the next round begins. Depending on the location, rounds can continue almost indefinitely. Two attendees are present during the rounds but only one person is required run the system. The attendees rotate duties.

Location and Set-up
The HockeyBot Amusement System requires 1-2 hours of set-up time with two people employed by Impact Robotik. Six trolleys are used to transport all necessary equipment to the arena site. A relatively flat, hard surface area of 25 x 36ft (900 ft2 / 84m2) is required for the arena location. Small crevasses in the floor less than 2” in diameter by ¼ deep are acceptable.

We also require a small work area close to the arena to do any necessary repairs. 8.5 x 8.5ft (72 ft2 / 7m2) would be sufficient. Both of the areas will be fenced in and only authorized personal may enter. Crowd control barriers with gates will be used to organize the participants.

Electrical Requirements
Two 120Vac/20amp outlets are required to charge the system. Another double 120Vac/20amp outlet may be required if lighting is required.

Departure
The six trolleys will be retrieved and loaded. The time required is 1-2 hours. Two people are required for this and are provided by Impact Robotik. This can happens after hours when the facilities are closed but it not necessary.

Security
The HockeyBot and its arena are completely enclosed within a steel barrier (see layout) at all times during operations. An attendee is also located next to the system kill switch at all times during operations. No physical contact with the HockeyBot is possible when under power.

It is preferred that a security guard is on the locations premises in case of any disturbances. Location of the nearest bank machine may be required depending upon payment method used.

Night Security may be required and will be assessed upon each engagement.
